Key Features
- IKEA has a pro-family policy which drives its efforts in making the store accessible to people of
different ages, needs and physical abilities.
-
Accessibility into the IKEA building and within the building has been taken into consideration in
the design, with changes in level kept to a minimum and ramps provided where necessary.
-
In addition to accessible car parking lots for vehicles driven by persons with disabilities, there are
car parking lots for families driving MPVs. To enhance the safety of shoppers walking from the
car park to the lobby entrance, pedestrian lanes leading to pedestrian crossings are provided.
-
For shoppers who do not drive, the taxis and bus pick up points are sheltered from the weather.
-
Signages are ample, easily visible and understood. The lifts are spacious with Braille and tactile
markings at the lift control buttons.
-
Toilets for those on wheelchair are comfortably sized with attention paid to details such as
ensuring that the clothing hooks on the toilet doors are positioned at height suitable for use.
-
Facilities like first aid room, baby changing / feeding rooms and prayer rooms are provided in the
design.
-
Other provisions include wider aisles in the restaurant for easy accessibility and shopping carts
designed to be attached to wheelchair.
-
For children, there is a play room, a dedicated child seating area in the restaurant, and child
sanitary fittings in the toilets.

Tip of the day
Wheelchair parking spaces in cinemas
Wheelchair users usually sit higher and their viewing positions should be arranged so that the view of fellow moviegoers who may be seated behind them will not be obstructed.
